Instructions
- Step 1:
- Preheat the oven to 175°C (350°F). Grease and line two 20 cm (8-inch) round cake pans with parchment paper.
- Step 2:
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- Step 3:
- In another bowl, beat butter and sugar until pale and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in vanilla.
- Step 4:
- Alternately add the flour mixture and milk to the wet ingredients, beginning and ending with flour. Mix until just combined.
- Step 5:
- Divide batter evenly between prepared pans. Smooth the tops.
- Step 6:
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool in pans for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a rack to cool completely.
- Step 7:
- For the buttercream, beat butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla, beating until smooth. Divide frosting; tint one portion pink and another yellow.
- Step 8:
- Level cake layers if needed. Place one layer on a serving plate and spread with pink buttercream. Top with the second layer; frost the entire cake with yellow buttercream.
- Step 9:
- Decorate with heart and star-shaped sugar decorations. Sprinkle with edible glitter or pearls if desired.
