06 - Using plastic wrap to assist, tightly roll the mixture around the banana into a log. Refrigerate for 10 minutes to firm.
07 - Combine chocolate chips and heavy cream in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in 20-second intervals, stirring until melted and smooth. Stir in soy sauce if using.
08 - Unwrap roll and cut into 1-inch slices. Arrange on a serving platter.
09 - Serve with chocolate soy dip on the side. Optionally garnish with sprinkles or additional shredded coconut.

# Expert Advice:

01 -
  • It takes less time than brewing coffee, but everyone will think you spent hours being creative in the kitchen.
  • Kids can actually help with every step, and they love the idea of dessert disguised as sushi.
  • You dont need any special skills, fancy tools, or ingredients you cant find at the corner store.
  • The chocolate dip tastes like a grown up version of cookie frosting, rich and smooth without being too sweet.
02 -
  • If your cream cheese is even a little bit cold, the dough will be lumpy and hard to spread, so let it sit out for at least 30 minutes before you start.
  • Chilling the roll is not optional, I tried slicing it right away once and it just squished and fell apart into a messy pile.
  • Use a sharp knife and wipe it clean between cuts, or the slices will have ragged edges and lose that clean sushi look.
03 -
  • Press the dough firmly and evenly so it doesnt tear when you roll it, thin spots will rip and thick spots will make lumpy slices.
  • Add the soy sauce to the chocolate dip even if it sounds weird, that tiny bit of salt and the dark color make people do a double take every single time.
  • Use a bench scraper or offset spatula to help lift and roll the dough if your hands are getting sticky, it makes the whole process so much easier.
