Recipe Guide
- → What makes the potatoes tender in this dish?
Slow cooking over several hours allows the diced russet potatoes to soften thoroughly, absorbing spices and broth flavors while maintaining some chunkiness for texture.
- → Can I substitute the milk and cream?
Yes, plant-based alternatives like almond or coconut milk and cream can be used to accommodate vegan or dairy-free preferences without compromising creaminess.
- → How spicy is this soup with Cajun seasoning?
The Cajun seasoning provides a balanced warmth with smoky, earthy undertones. Adjust the optional cayenne pepper for more heat if desired.
- → Is it possible to make this dish vegetarian?
Omitting sausage or using plant-based sausage creates a vegetarian option. Vegetable broth also keeps it plant-friendly.
- → How should I thicken the soup without flour or cornstarch?
Partially mashing some of the cooked potatoes directly in the pot naturally thickens the soup, giving a creamy texture without additional thickeners.
